Clean up your Instagram feed

Remove profiles that:

  • Don’t follow back
  • Follow you but you don’t follow them
  • You don’t engage with
  • Are spam accounts

Drop in the data export from Meta (Instagram). It is read in your browser; we never see your messages, photos or the file itself.

  • No password
  • No login
  • Human pace
  • 4,318 people have cleaned their feed
  • 512,704 profiles removed from their following
  • ~100 unfollows a day, at a human pace

The whole thing, in three steps

  1. 1 Download your data export from Meta
  2. 2 Drop the zip in here — it sorts your following for you
  3. 3 Add the Chrome extension and it does the unfollowing

Account safety

Built to keep your account out of trouble

Instagram cracks down on tools that collect passwords, hit private APIs, or fire hundreds of actions a minute from a data centre. This does none of those things, and that is the whole design.

The four rules
  1. 01 Official export, not scraping. Your lists come from Meta's own export tool — Create an Export, in Accounts Centre. Nothing is harvested from Instagram to build them.
  2. 02 Your browser, your session. Actions happen in a visible tab on your own computer, in the account you are already signed in to — at a pace and pattern you could match by hand.
  3. 03 Slow on purpose. Around 100 unfollows a day, spread out, with randomised gaps. A big clean-up takes a few days. Speed is what gets accounts action-blocked.
  4. 04 It stops when Instagram says so. Any "try again later" notice halts everything on the spot and it never auto-retries. Your progress is kept, and nothing is done twice.

Why a Chrome extension

A Chrome extension, not an app that wants your password

App-store "unfollower trackers" have one thing in common: they ask you to type your Instagram password into somebody else's app, which is the single most reliable way to lose an account. Unfollowing has to happen inside a real logged-in browser session, so that is where this runs — on your machine, in a tab you can watch and close.

FAQ

Bulk unfollowing, answered

Will I get banned for mass unfollowing?

Instagram limits how fast you can act, not whether you may unfollow. What gets accounts restricted is volume and speed — hundreds of actions a minute, or a tool acting from a server that is not you. This unfollows one account at a time with randomised 30–45 second gaps and a daily cap, in your own browser, and stops the moment Instagram objects.

Do I have to give you my Instagram password?

No, and there is nowhere to type one. You stay signed in to Instagram the normal way; the extension acts inside that session, the way you would yourself.

How do I get my Instagram data export?

In the Instagram app or on the website, open Accounts Centre › Your information and permissions › Create an Export. Ask for JSON (not HTML) and All time. Meta emails you a ZIP, usually within an hour. Drop it on this page without unzipping it.

How many people can I unfollow per day?

You set the cap; the default is deliberately conservative, around 100 a day. Clearing a thousand dead follows takes a bit over a week. That is the point — the fast version is the one that gets accounts blocked.

Does it work on iPhone or Android?

No. It needs a real logged-in browser session and Chrome extensions, so it runs on a desktop or laptop — Chrome, Edge, Brave or any other Chromium browser. You request the export on your phone; you do the clean-up on a computer.

What does it cost?

Free right now.

Can I choose who stays?

That is most of what the app is. Everyone lands in keep / not sure / unfollow with the reasoning shown — who follows you back, who you have liked, commented on or messaged, and how recently — and you can drag anyone anywhere before a single action happens.

Step zero

What we need from Meta

Instagram will not hand this to an app, and we would not want it to. You ask Meta for it yourself and it arrives by email — usually within the hour, sometimes the next day.

  1. 01 In the Instagram app or on the website, open Accounts Centre › Your information and permissions › Create an Export. At a minimum we need the list of your followers and following. But the more data provided, the more accurately we score each account and suggest who to unfollow.
  2. 02 Ask for JSON, not HTML. The HTML version drops the timestamps, and timestamps are the entire job.
  3. 03 Set the range to All time. A date-limited export quietly truncates your followers list, and we would rather refuse than guess.
  4. 04 When the email lands, download the ZIP and drop it into this page. Do not unzip it, we read the archive as it is.

One thing first

Still 0 in Unsure

Those accounts are not in your unfollow list — nothing will happen to them. Sort them now if you want them dealt with, or carry on and they simply stay followed.

One question first

0 follow you — you never followed back

We call these lurkers — what should we do with them? You can silently remove them, allow them to continue following you, or we’ll put them in the Unsure column so you can decide one by one.
